Got a Question?

💪🔥 • @pascal.a.arteaga About a month ago, I regained the ability to dip 3 plates. I am still about 20 lb off my 1RM with this form; unfortunately, I had a major setback last year (October 16, 2023) due to a partial latissimus dorsi tendon tear at the humeral insertion. Nevertheless, I am slowly working my way back up and so can you with these tips:

For strength development, external cues appear to be superior to internal cues, according to the limited studies we currently have on the subject. Contrasting with bodybuilding, it may then be helpful for you to imagine pushing the bars away, not concentrating on primary movers. However, it will almost certainly always help to consider the moving body parts, when first learning the motion.

Although not perfect technique, notice how I lean forward on the descent, resulting in a better body orientation to recruit chest fibers. From there I exploit the body’s natural stretch-reflex, springing out of the hole with the assistance of the spinal erectors as well. If purely interested in putting on the most amount of weight possible, you should not go nearly as deep as I am in this video, stopping just below parallel to adhere to competition standards. You will be able to lift significantly more with a reduced range of motion, given the length-tension relationship of sarcomeres and self-evidently less total work/distance needed.

Here, I am utilizing this exercise for basic strength and more importantly muscle growth in an accumulation phase of my training. Shown are top sets for post-activation potentiation to make my true, working sets feel lighter and easier while receiving additional neuromuscular benefits from the increased load exposure. There is compiling, empirical evidence to suggest that the pectorals are responsive to stretch-mediated hypertrophy, meaning that movements with tension in a stretch seem slightly superior for certain muscles. This looks to be particularly advantageous in movements, where the hardest portion of the exercise is in the stretch as exemplified in the bottom position of a dip for the pecs.

Hope that helps!

Our Sleeves plus Archie is a win win 🙌 • @thompsonbowtie The Fat Archie prototype!
Been working on this over a ten year period. Finally figured out the glitch.

0-90’s & old Arched inclines have poor positioning on their pads. Like horrible. Leading to shoulder impingement. Corner of hard pad pushing against seem of posterior shoulder under load…BAD!

David Barth @universalathletics & l worked on a split pad in 2018. I have pics, vids of it. It was a lot better. But we needed it perfect.

I looked at two ends of @abmats Thompson FatMats butt end together. There was the solution.

@the_iron_illustrator Byung Kim, Cam & Will at @williams_strength are working on this ‘Legacy’ piece now.

Very happy to be working with them. Young go getters in the industry.

To my competition: You didn’t think of this type of pad because you are not lifters!! You can’t comprehend how shoulders work..especially under a weight load. You are gimmick driven. You can try and copy my pad but your late to this strength party. 🤡😜

Let’s Go!!!💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾

💪 • @stretchstrongapp Donnie Thompson with the 1 minute inversion breakdown (aka spinal traction). Letting gravity do all the work to stretch, decompress, and take a load off.

You can do these with gravity boots, inversion tables, and thick bands. The @spudincstraps Big Ray strap setup is a favorite for the banded variation.
