Got a Question?

🚨15% OFF THIS WEEK🚨 - The Des is named after one of my old training partners Desi Hubbard who trained at the gym for a number of years while chasing his 1000Lb squat. He was a guy who did things his way working his way up the weight classes putting in the time every day. He drove well over a hour daily to come to the gym during his 1000lb squat quest after working all day as a diesel mechanic. His training included tons of back work and he would often do exercise that seemed alittle unorthodox at times. After getting his goal in powerlifting, he went on to be a top arm wrestler.
We have lots of attachements at the gym, but he was always looking for a unique feel to each movement and often welded up different attachments in his spare time.
One of them was a different row attachment that was at just the right angle to nail the lats. The feel was different and flowed effortlessly while not forcing the joints or hands into awkward angles.. This is unusual as a lot of attachments don’t flow. We used it a lot over 10 years and I never really found another like it. I always wanted to make it but not just another row handle. In 2021 when we began to make attachments with 2 ¾” orbs that were not industry standard. It took a couple more years but in 2024, we came up with The Des. With his blessing, here it is for you to enjoy as a great back attachment and training implement.

💪 • @tpsmalden Perishable Skills:

In today’s Old Man Conjugate-Warlord Conjugate updates, I’m back on my bullshit and trying to get harder to kill while being the strongest guy on my street.

I added Grip Training back in today.

I trained grip consistently for decades and had a half way decent grip.

But, like all other forms of strength, Grip, at least for me is a highly Perishable Skill.

If I don’t train it, I lose it.
And I lose it fast.

I did Rolling Thunder Deadlifts and Gripedo whatever these are called as part of a circuit after main lift.

Fuuuuck did these feel heavy.

There are tons of benefits to training Grip including longer life. Yes, there are legit studies that show people with above average grip strength live longer.

And, since I am big on keeping Perishable Skills sharp, Grip needs to be a staple like it used to.

Other Perishable Skills we need to train in particular:

VO2Max
GPP
Flexibility/Mobility
Balance

Non fitness related Perishable Skill for the Local Warlords:

Shooting
Draw/Presentation
BJJ
Stand Up Striking

That’s a short list, but a good starting point.

Hopefully my grip strength will snap back quick.

I always have loved Squats, I loved going basement and getting 3 whites in competition. There are many who know my story that probably think I nutz for still doing variations of them. Times change, injuries dictate adjustments, age may limit load, but the heart and desire doesn’t change. Although knee health went out the drain for me a long time ago, I believe squatting has allowed me to prevail and live the way I want to in this life of iron than if I succumbed to leg pressing years ago!!!

💪🔥 • @worldsstrongestfosterdad I decided to check to see where I currently stand for Decembers USC 2024 705lb mammoth bar deadlift for reps event. This is at a guesstimated mammoth bar height and I’m very satisfied with how off season has been going.

I have my final follow up appointment with the surgeon Monday where I should be released to start regaining my pulling strength and using my right arm again for deadlift.

Another thanks to @spudincstraps and @jwalling136 for loading me this sweet strap so that I could continue to make gains in my deadlift while recovering from my bicep tendon surgery.

🔥🔥 • @shawnmichaeltrevino Got home from a shotty day at work to find my new stone strap arrived. Instant stress reliever. The idea of not using tacky to train stones will definitely have me training them more frequently @spudincstraps
