Climbing up the Rough Side of the Mountain

I have struggled for years to be consistent with writing a blog for the Spud, Inc. website. Part of the problem has been that I didn’t think I had anything that anyone really wanted to hear. I’m not a world class powerlifter like Spud.  I am a mediocre powerlifter at best and except in spurts, have never really been consistent with training.  I didn’t think I had anything to offer until last month (February 2019) when I completed the altMBA a short one-month business course.  The altMBA is a sprint business course to teach you all you need to know to kind of get over your fears and move forward in your business. One of my learning groups that month was a great group of people who I meet with now every month and they put the idea in my head that perhaps writing a blog, focusing on the journey that Marc aka Spud and I took to create Spud, Inc.

I am not going to lie, we have not done anything traditionally.  In fact, we will admit that we have done everything the ABSOLUTE HARDEST WAY POSSIBLE.  For the past 19 years it has been head down, nose to the grindstone and just keep moving forward.  If you have ever seen the movie Conan the Barbarian with Arnold Schwarzenegger there is that iconic scene where he is pushing the wheel of pain, well folks, that has been us.  Sometimes it moved us forward quickly, and sometimes it made us take 3 steps backward and we had to start over again. But we always got stronger, we always learned a lesson and we always took that lesson to make the business stronger.  As you read this blog, remember it isn’t always going to be a pretty road, and you will cringe at the mistakes we made but we did it and we are still standing.

Creating Spud, Inc. has been a 19-year endeavor from the moment we met on January 3rd of 2000 to today and it will continue. That’s what this blog is going to be. I’m going to start at the beginning. I’m going to start before January 3rd, 2000 and back up to December 31st, 1999 and in baby steps, I’m going to paint the picture of how Marc/Spud and I ended up with what we have today and then hopefully we can glimpse what our future will be.  If we are lucky, I can get Spud to chime in with his memories and we can paint the whole picture.
